Mission/Vision
Salzburg College facilitates intercultural learning not just on an academic, but on a personal and professional level as well, by encouraging its students to understand and utilize cultural diversity through competence.
Salzburg College aims at teaching students to think critically in a global world gaining academic as well as professional skills and skills for life. Academic excellence is our prerequisite.

History
Salzburg College was founded as a study abroad program for Illinois State University and Northern Illinois University by Dr. Ina Stegen in 1970 and started out with a classical European Studies Program of liberal arts courses.
In 1975 a Photography and Studio Art program was added to the existing courses.
Around 1985 two new areas of study – Business and Communication – expanded the curriculum. Soon thereafter, international internships were introduced to allow an even greater immersion into Austrian-European culture.
2013 marked a new milestone for Salzburg College with the decision to collaborate with the Intercultural College of the University of Salzburg in offering its first graduate studies program in the field of Intercultural Studies.
In 2019 the first bachelor program commenced on site in Salzburg.

Salzburg College is affiliated with over 150 colleges and universities throughout the United States through direct and indirect partnerships for our study abroad programs. Independent students from around the globe wanting to enroll in one of the Salzburg College programs for transferable U.S. American credit may do so by applying through our U.S. school of record, Northern Illinois University.

Salzburg College welcomes a diverse student body from across the globe. For over fifty years, the college has opened its doors to international learners, with the majority coming from the United States of America. For our study abroad programs, students from more than 500 colleges and universities worldwide have taken part in Salzburg College, contributing to a vibrant and intercultural academic community in the heart of Europe.
Accreditation
Salzburg College delivers academic coursework that is accredited by Northern Illinois University (USA) under a School of Record agreement that has been in place since 1971. NIU acts as the accredited institution of record, reviewing and approving all courses and issuing official transcripts, so students earn fully accredited U.S. university credit.

Salzburg College Study Center
Salzburg College is located inside the KunstQuartier (ArtQuarter) on Bergstrasse in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town. Our historic core building, dating back to the 15th century, has a rich past—once home to the Salzburger Druckerei (Salzburg Press) for over two centuries until its final press run in 2008.
The KunstQuartier, a vibrant complex in the right side of the old town, houses esteemed institutions like the Camerata Orchestra, Theater im KunstQuartier of the Mozarteum University, Community TV Station FS1, and more. Beyond our own recital hall and private atrium, our study center boasts a range of amenities, including classrooms, a multi-functional hall, art studio, darkroom, library, study spaces, a spacious lounge, and music practice rooms.
Explore the city’s treasures with the university library, Mozart Archives, museums, and galleries just a stroll away. Nearby, the Old City unfolds as an extended campus, inviting students on excursions to landmarks like Panorama Museum, Fortress Hohensalzburg, Hellbrunn Palace, Hangar-7, and more.
